What Is Maev?

Raw dog food boasts a long list of health benefits, from better digestion and weight management to reduced allergies and an improved skin and coat appearance. That’s why so many pet parents have turned to raw dog food as a healthier, more natural way to feed their beloved pets over traditional kibble or even fresh or freeze-dried diets. Plus, dogs typically prefer the enhanced flavor of raw food—even the picky ones. But preparing raw dog food yourself can be complicated, costly and let’s face it… kind of messy at times.

Maev is the world’s first raw dog food diet that features human-grade, protein-rich ingredients and nutritionally balanced plans developed by PhD veterinary nutritionists that provide all the benefits you’d want from a raw food diet without the work.

With convenient, complete meals that are frozen and stored in a resealable bag, Maev’s meals are meant to be served frozen. Beyond the convenience of not having to remember to defrost anything the night before, this can come with other benefits like promoting dental health and slowing down speed eaters to promote better digestion.

And while most other raw food dog diets on the market feature ingredients that are ground down and combined so that you can’t quite discern any specific foods, Maev’s meals include chopped up chunks of human-grade, whole meats, vegetables and fruit that you can easily recognize along with specially formulated supplements to aid in digestion and nutrition absorption.

In addition to human-grade, raw food and specially formulated meal plans designed to support digestion, increase mobility, relieve anxiety and more. Maev also offers specialized Supplement Bars and single ingredient treats to increase the nutritional benefits and help your dog realize their full potential.

How Maev Works

Maev makes feeding your dog a healthier, less processed, more nutrient-dense meal easy. Featuring four main targeted meal plan formulas to choose from based on your pet’s unique health or age—including digestion, mobility, anxiety and coat (plus puppy)—developed by board-certified vet nutritionists, you’ll receive balanced meals made up of frozen, high quality beef, chicken or a combo of both, plus whole fruits and vegetables that you can just open and serve.

To get started, visit MeetMaev.com and create a profile for your pup by answering just a few simple questions. This will help narrow down the recommended amount and frequency of food you’ll receive with each order, although you can always adjust as needed. You can choose what kinds of protein (chicken, beef or a combo of both) your pup prefers, as well as the right meal plan formula to meet your dog’s needs.

Your first box will include clear instructions on how to transition your dog to Maev’s raw food slowly and seamlessly, plus a nutrition breakdown as well as a detailed portioning guide. You can also choose to add on vet-formulated supplement bars, bone broth cubes that make a great meal topper, or single-ingredient, freeze-dried treats that can add a beneficial nutrient boost to your dog’s day.

Most people feed their dogs two meals a day, and we recommend you stick to the same feeding schedule you’ve already established and follow the portion guide to divide the recommended daily amount as needed. Simply store the raw, resealable food bags in your freezer, and serve frozen—no thawing or cooking necessary. According to Maev, dogs tend to love the texture of the frozen cubes, plus it has the added benefits of helping to reduce plaque on their teeth, but you can also let the food thaw at room temperature for about 10 minutes if your pup prefers.

Maev’s meals are delivered as part of an ongoing subscription, which means when you sign up and choose your preferences for your first order, those will also apply to every recurring order. You always have the option to change, pause or cancel your subscription before your next order ships by logging into your Maev customer portal on their website or contacting [email protected]

The Ingredients

Founded to help dog parents provide clean, high quality ingredients that they can feel good about feeding their pup, Maev is the first and only raw diet that uses human-grade, whole ingredients that you can easily identify and would enjoy yourself. They aim to source locally and only use USDA-certified meats and whole fruits and veggies to create meals that are free from processed, artificial ingredients and fillers.

Every Maev meal is packed with complete proteins, whole fruits and vegetables and supplements to satisfy your dog’s taste buds and nutritional needs, featuring:

  • USDA-certified beef and beef liver
  • USDA-certified chicken breast and chicken liver
  • Green beans
  • Zucchini
  • Kale
  • Blanched potatoes
  • Blueberries
  • MaevMulti™ Peanut Butter Cube
  • Chicory root
  • Probiotics
  • Bovine Colostrum
  • L-Theanine
  • Chondrotin & Glucosamine

Each ingredient is flash-frozen to lock in essential vitamins, minerals and proteins and can be stored in the freezer for up to six months with no artificial preservatives needed. Plus, Maev’s raw food is AAFCO-compliant and rigorously tested to ensure the utmost quality and safety.

How Much Does Maev Cost?

Feeding your dogs a high quality, protein-rich raw food diet does come at a higher cost than your traditional, ultra-processed kibble. But the exact amount will depend on how much food your dog needs a day based on their weight, age, activity level and other factors, meaning the cost to feed a German Shepard will vary from that of a Yorkie.

For a 40-pound adult dog with a medium activity level, Maev will run around $5 to $6 a day based on their recommended amount and frequency of shipments (20 pounds every four weeks). Shipping is free on orders over $249 to the contiguous United States, and your order will be automatically billed and shipped based on your selected frequency.

While that may seem steep compared to what you’ll find on pet store shelves, many owners agree that cost is well worth the health improvements their dogs experience, as well as lower vet bills in the long run.

To help mitigate the upfront cost and provide a way for customers and their dogs to test out raw food before fully committing, Maev also offers a trial five-pound bag for one flat fee plus shipping. Maev also offers special introductory discounts for new customers and other ways to save on MeetMaev.com

Reviews

Maria

My dog is the pickiest eater that I know. I have tried so many different raw foods, but they require defrosting. He turns his head the other way even when I have to spoon-feed him. But with Maev Beef Raw Food, he just loves it way too much. He enjoys eating it frozen. Since I’ve switched to Maev, his skin issues are getting better. Thank you, Maev!

Michael

At first I wasn't sure if she'd like frozen food, but after easing her into this MUCH BETTER food than kibble she is now in love with it. She won't eat anything else.

Ellie

For a while, we kept our dog on a mix of dry and canned/processed food, and the results weren't good; her fur was matting, she struggled on walks and most of the time, she was hesitant to even eat it. When we first gave her Maev, however, she downed the whole bowl in 2 minutes (green beans and all!) As she eats it more regularly, she's been a lot more spry and healthy-looking. Safe to stay, we're sticking to the raw/natural food.
