Luna G3 Auto CPAP Overview

The Luna G3 Auto CPAP is manufactured by React Health, formerly 3B Medical, and is designed to provide optimal comfort and effective treatment for sleep apnea. As a standard CPAP machine, the Luna G3 delivers air at a fixed pressure level based on your prescription. This machine includes a built-in humidifier that can be heated prior to use, which helps prevent dryness and irritation in the nose and throat, ensuring a comfortable experience throughout the night.

Key Features of the Luna G3 Auto-CPAP Machine

The Luna G3 Auto CPAP has several key features that make it a standout choice:

  • Adjustable Ramp Mode: The ramp feature allows you to start therapy at a lower pressure setting and slowly build to your prescribed pressure over a period of time that you set, up to 60 minutes. Some CPAP users appreciate this mode because starting at their prescribed level can be jarring and uncomfortable.
  • Humidity Controls: The built-in humidifier helps reduce dryness and irritation in the nose and throat by adding moisture to the pressurized air as it circulates. Users can choose from five humidity levels, or use an automatic setting that adjusts based on the humidity in the room.
  • Heating Options: The preheat function allows you to warm the water in the humidifier tank up to 30 minutes before use, and the heated tubing helps prevent condensation from forming in the tubing and mask.
  • User-Friendly Interface: The digital LCD screen and knob control allow you to easily navigate settings, view sleep data, transmit data to your doctor and receive reminders when it’s time to replace the air filter, hose and face mask.
  • Quiet Operation: This machine operates at about 26 decibels, which is lower than the average CPAP machine at 30 decibels and can be considered “whisper quiet” and unlikely to bother most users or their sleep partners.

These features collectively ensure a highly effective and comfortable sleep therapy experience that’s tailored to individual needs and preferences. The quiet operation and integrated humidifier further enhance comfort, making it easier for users to maintain consistent use and compliance with their prescribed treatment.

Luna G3 Auto CPAP Compared to the Competitors

Here’s a look at how this popular device compares to others like it:

Luna G3 Auto CPAP vs. ResMed AirSense 11 AutoSet

The Luna G3 Auto CPAP and the ResMed AirSense 11 AutoSet are two well-known CPAP options. Both machines have a heated humidifier and programmable auto-ramp function. But there are some differences to consider between these two units:

  • Price: The ResMed AirSense 11 is more expensive, and that’s because it has a handful of advanced features that you may or may not find necessary for your PAP treatment. If you’re looking for a solid CPAP machine, the Luna G3 easily fits the bill.
  • Treatment Mode: The ResMed AirSense can function as a CPAP or APAP machine, with a built-in “for her” APAP algorithm. The Luna G3 is a CPAP machine that delivers air at a fixed pressure, which many people find to be a suitable treatment for their sleep apnea.
  • Advanced Features: For the extra money, the ResMed AirSense 11 has some features that the Luna G3 doesn’t, like touchscreen operation, SmartStart, SmartStop and Care Check In, to name a few. However, if you don’t think you need all the extras from your CPAP machine, we suggest going with the Luna G3, as it’s a better value for the money.

Luna G3 Auto CPAP vs. ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet

The AirSense 10 AutoSet is ResMed’s older model, which was first released in 2014. Since then, the company has upgraded its design and features and released the AirSense 11 AutoSet in 2021.

As the older model, the AirSense 10 has fewer upgrades and features, which makes the full retail pricing more comparable to the Luna G3. So what do you get for your money with each device? Let’s compare the two:

  • Luna G3 Auto CPAP: Fixed pressure CPAP device with auto-ramp setting, built-in adjustable heated humidifier with heated tubing and preheat setting, LCD interface with knob control and three modes of data transfer. We’ve also found better sales available with this model, sometimes up to $100 or more less than the AirSense 10.
  • ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet: CPAP or APAP modes for therapy, auto-ramp setting, built-in adjustable heated humidifier with heated tubing (no preheat setting) and LCD interface with knob control. Extra features include SmartStart, expiratory pressure relief and advanced event detection.

Luna G3 Auto CPAP vs. Philips Respironics DreamStation Auto CPAP

As of September 2021, Philips has issued a recall of many of its PAP devices, including the DreamStation Auto CPAP machine. The DreamStation 2 Auto CPAP was not included in the recall, however, according to the company’s website as of August 2024, this device is currently unavailable for sale in the U.S. as the company is focusing all of its efforts on replacing the recalled devices.

With the DreamStation Auto CPAP out of commission, we will focus on the main features of the Luna G3 Auto CPAP, as it’s a highly reputable device at a solid price point, with a key features that make it suitable for many CPAP users:

  • Fixed pressure CPAP machine delivers continuous air pressure according to your prescribed level.
  • Automatic ramp setting gradually increases pressure to ease you into CPAP therapy, and is programmable in five-minute increments for up to an hour before the full prescribed pressure starts.
  • Built-in heated humidifier with preheat option, heated tubing and climate controls for maximum comfort. The heated tubing prevents condensation in the mask and tube, and the preheat option heats the water in the reservoir for 30 minutes before therapy begins for added comfort.
  • LCD interface with knob control allows easy control of data and features.
  • Three modes of data transfer means that your sleep data is always accessible.
  • Lightweight, packable and eligible for purchase with your HSA or FSA account.

The Bottom Line

The Luna G3 Auto CPAP is a solid machine at a great price point. It has a handful of key comfort features that make it a great fit for beginners and seasoned CPAP users alike. The auto-ramp feature eases you into your prescribed air pressure level, while the quiet operation and integrated humidifier with heated tubing further enhance your comfort level, which can help you stay consistent with use. We also appreciate the preheat option for the humidifier, which ensures you can start your PAP therapy more comfortably each night.

Are there machines out there with fancier features? Yes, but those features come at a cost. If you don’t need the bells and whistles, we recommend adding the Luna G3 Auto CPAP to the top of your list. It’s an excellent choice that can help improve your sleep quality and overall health with consistent, compliant CPAP therapy.
