ResMed AirSense 11 AutoSet CPAP Machine

Often regarded as the gold standard of treatment for sleep apnea, positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy is the most common and reliable treatment method, helping to reduce symptoms such as daytime sleepiness and delay the onset of other serious issues. PAP therapy can be delivered in different modes: Continuous (CPAP) and automatic (APAP).

Both are effective, but APAP therapy can be necessary for those with sleep conditions requiring variable air pressure throughout the night, and beneficial for anyone who is having a hard time adjusting to the fixed pressure of CPAP therapy.

Combining enhanced digital health technology with effective therapy modes, the ResMed AirSense 11 is equipped with both APAP and CPAP settings and is designed to make starting sleep apnea therapy—and adhering to it—easier and more convenient than ever.

To help you decide whether the ResMed Airsense 11 is right for you, we’ll explore the machine’s key features, how it compares to its predecessor and other important information you should know before purchasing.

Key Features of the ResMed AirSense 11

The ResMed AirSense 11 comes packed with features designed to enhance comfort and effectiveness:

  • Advanced AutoSet Technology: This feature automatically adjusts pressure levels based on real-time monitoring of your breathing patterns, ensuring you receive optimal pressure for effective therapy throughout the night.
  • AutoRamp: Eases you into therapy by gradually increasing air pressure and airflow to your prescribed level for optimal comfort as you fall asleep.
  • HumidAir Integrated Humidifier: The built-in heated humidifier adds moisture to the air, preventing dryness and irritation in your airways. This is especially beneficial for users in dry climates or those prone to nasal congestion.
  • Expiratory Pressure Relief (EPR): This feature gently lowers the pressure delivered to you as you exhale, making it easier to breathe out against the air pressure.
  • SmartStart and SmartStop: These features allow the machine to start automatically when you put on your mask and stop when you remove it, simplifying the operation and ensuring you never forget to start or stop your therapy.
  • Personal myAir Assistant: Guides you through device installation and therapy acclimation.
  • Care Check-In: This feature provides weekly check-ins and customized coaching and troubleshooting for new users.
  • Wireless Connectivity: Connects your machine to the myAir app, allowing your healthcare provider to monitor and adjust your therapy remotely.
  • Advanced Event Detection: Identifies sleep apnea-related events to provide valuable insight to your physician.

Who Should Consider a ResMed AirSense 11 AutoSet

The ResMed AirSense 11 is ideal for individuals with moderate to severe sleep apnea who are looking for a CPAP machine that offers advanced technology, ease of use and personalized comfort. Here’s who could benefit most from investing in this product:

  • Those who feel more comfortable with a machine that adjusts pressure levels automatically
  • Sleepers who are new to PAP therapy
  • People who experience frequent congestion

ResMed AirSense 11 Accessories and Parts

To get the most out of your ResMed AirSense 11, a variety of accessories and parts are available. These components are designed to enhance the machine’s functionality and ensure a comfortable, effective therapy experience.

Some parts are included with the purchase of your machine, some are optional and need to be purchased separately and some need to be replaced regularly. We’ll cover them all below.

ResMed AirSense 11 Masks

A mask is not included with the ResMed AirSense 11, which is pretty standard with most CPAP machines. This allows you to purchase the style of CPAP mask that will work best for you.

The ResMed AirSense 11 is compatible with select ResMed full face, nasal and nasal pillow masks:

  • Full Face Masks: AirFit F30i, AirFit F30, AirFit F20, AirTouch F20
  • Nasal Masks: AirFit N30i, AirFit N30, AirFit N20, AirTouch N20
  • Nasal Pillow Masks: AirFit P30i, AirFit P10

ResMed AirSense 11 Water Chamber

The water chamber is part of the humidification system in the AirSense 11 and is included in your initial CPAP machine purchase. It’s recommended to replace the water chamber every six months. Replacement water chambers cost between $25 to $30 and are available for purchase at various online retailers.

ResMed AirSense 11 Heated Tubing

The ResMed ClimateLineAir tubing maintains a consistent temperature regardless of the temperature or humidity level of your room. The heated tubing can be set to a temperature between 65 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. ClimateLineAir tubing comes with your ResMed AirSense 11 machine, and it’s recommended that you replace your tubing every three to six months. Replacement tubing will run you around $45.

ResMed AirSense 11 Hose and Tubing

The ResMed AirSense 11 uses ClimateLineAir tubing as the hose and tubing to deliver air from the machine to your CPAP mask. As we covered above, this specialized tubing integrates with the heated humidifier to deliver optimal moisture and prevent congestion and nasal dryness.

ResMed AirSense 11 Filters

Filters are used to prevent dust and other allergens and contaminants from getting into your CPAP machine. The ResMed AirSense 11 comes with one filter, which should be inspected regularly and changed every one to six months, depending on your environment. Replacement filters can be purchased online in multi-packs, so you always have one on-hand when you need a fresh filter.

ResMed AirSense 11 Power Cord, Battery, SD Card and Side Cover

The ResMed AirSense 11 power cord comes standard with every machine purchase. Optional ResMed AirSense 11 battery packs can be purchased separately to power your CPAP machine during travel or power outages.

While the ResMed AirSense 11 has wireless connectivity to automatically transfer your sleep data to the myAir app, you can also purchase a separate RedMed AirSense 11 SD card to store your data locally, which would be helpful if there are times when you won’t have Wi-Fi access.

The ResMed AirSense 11 side cover is an optional accessory that fits over the slot that the HumidAir humidifier chamber would occupy, allowing you to use the machine without the built-in humidifier. This accessory can be purchased separately from select online retailers, and is necessary if you want to use the machine without the humidifier.

ResMed AirSense 11 Nasal Pillows and Nasal Mask

As is the case with most CPAP machines, a mask is not included with the RedMed AirSense 11. This allows users to purchase the exact mask style that best suits their needs. Nasal and nasal pillow masks are the most streamlined mask option, and work well for side sleepers, back sleepers and anyone who changes sleep positions throughout the night. These masks are also best for those with facial hair, particularly nasal pillow masks.

The ResMed AirSense 11 is compatible with select ResMed nasal and nasal pillow masks:

  • Nasal Masks: AirFit N30i, AirFit N30, AirFit N20, AirTouch N20
  • Nasal Pillow Masks: AirFit P30i, AirFit P10

ResMed AirSense 11 Supplies

When it’s time to purchase supplies and replacement parts for your ResMed AirSense 11, such as filters, tubing and water chambers, you can do so at a trusted CPAP retailer or online store. Be sure to follow the recommended schedule for replacement of your CPAP parts and accessories to keep your machine running optimally.

ResMed AirSense 11 Manual

The ResMed AirSense 11 comes with a manual and user guide to ensure proper setup and operation of your CPAP machine. It also comes with a travel bag that fits the machine, tubing and other accessories, making it easy to travel with your AirSense 11.

ResMed AirSense 11 Price

The full retail price for the ResMed AirSense 11 is around $1,350. However, promotions and discounts are often available to lower the price. For instance, at the time this review was written, the price for the full ResMed AirSense 11 system was $1,044.

Insurance providers and Medicare will often cover a portion of your cost, so it’s best to check with your provider to see what benefits are available to you. The ResMed AirSense 11 is also HSA and FSA eligible, so if you participate in either of these programs, it’s a great way to save by purchasing your machine with pre-tax dollars.

Troubleshooting ResMed AirSense 11 Problems

While the ResMed AirSense 11 is designed for reliable performance, users may occasionally encounter an issue. Here’s how to handle those infrequent issues:

ResMed Airsense 11 Error Codes

If your ResMed AirSense 11 CPAP machine displays an error code, you can consult your user manual or the manufacturer’s website for help. There you will find exactly what is causing the error code, and what to do about it.

You can also try these general troubleshooting steps:

  • Check the power supply to make sure the cord is securely connected to the machine and the outlet. You can also try plugging another device into the outlet to confirm it’s working.
  • Reset the device by disconnecting the power supply, removing the water chamber and mask, and waiting at least 30 seconds before reconnecting everything and turning it back on.

ResMed Airsense 11 Support

To access customer support or technical support, you can contact your retailer for assistance, or visit the ResMed website for 24/7 product and service support via the company’s Ai-powered chat tool. Phone support is also available, as is a host of online tools such as frequently asked questions and digital product manuals. Your myAir app can also provide support and troubleshooting specific to your ResMed AirSense 11 device.

Comparing ResMed AirSense 11 vs. 10

When considering an upgrade from the ResMed AirSense 10 to the AirSense 11, it’s important to understand the key differences and improvements:

  • New Features: The AirSense 11 has a few new features, including Test Drive, which allows you to experience a range of pressure settings; Personal Therapy Assistant, a series of videos in the myAir app designed to help you set your machine up and start therapy successfully; and Care Check-In, with weekly therapy check-ins for the first 30 days and tailored support and troubleshooting tips as needed.
  • Algorithm Enhancements: The AirSense 11 has the “for her” breathing algorithm integrated into the system, which was previously only available with the separate AirSense 10 AutoSet For Her model. This algorithm is tailored toward women’s breathing patterns for more personalized therapy.
  • Upgraded Navigation and Display: The AirSense 11 features a full touchscreen and larger control panel for ease of operation, an upgrade from the AirSense 10’s scroll dial and home button. Both machines feature the quick-start power button on top of the device and auto-dimming color LCD screen.
  • Redesigned Water Chamber: The AirSense 11’s new humidifier chamber holds the same amount of water as the previous generation with a shorter height and broader base, for a more streamlined design.
  • Weight Reduction: At 2.5 pounds, the AirSense 11 is about 0.25 pounds lighter than the AirSense 10.

The Bottom Line

The ResMed AirSense 11 AutoSet machine is a standout choice for those looking for comfortable and effective PAP therapy, with premium comfort features, user-friendly design and robust product support. Of course we love the AutoSet technology, AutoRamp feature, heated humidifier and quiet operation. We also love that it’s portable and approved by the FAA for in-flight use. It’s versatile, intuitive and customizable, making it easy for anyone to get started and stick with their PAP therapy, which in the end, is what matters most.

FAQs

How to turn off ResMed AirSense 11?

To stop therapy on a ResMed AirSense 11 CPAP machine, press the power button located on the top of your machine, and therapy will cease.

Additionally, if you have SmartStop enabled, simply remove your mask to stop therapy. After a few moments, AirSense 11 will detect that you have taken your mask off and will stop airflow. This function does not happen immediately and will take a few seconds to shut off.

How often to change filter on ResMed AirSense 11?

Changing the filter on your ResMed AirSense 11 regularly helps maintain air quality and device performance. Visual inspection can help indicate when it’s time to change the filter. ResMed recommends changing the filter every one to six months, leaning toward more often if you live in a dusty or humid environment. Sleep Doctor recommends sticking with a shorter replacement schedule, and replacing the filter every 30 days.

How to use SoClean with ResMed AirSense 11?

The decision to use an ozone device to clean your CPAP machine should be carefully considered, weighing the pros and cons of the convenience of using an ozone device versus the likelihood of potential damage to your ResMed equipment.

SoClean and SoClean 2 can technically be used to clean your AirSense 11 CPAP machine, but doing so will void the manufacturer’s warranty with ResMed, so it is not recommended.

Instead, ResMed recommends cleaning your machine’s water reservoir and tubing once a week with warm, drinking-quality water and mild soap and drying with a clean towel.
